We are providing 21st century care in 20th century buildings. Our space is too small, our services are scattered across the hospital. The Gagnon Heart Hospital will bring together all of our cardiovascular services into one state-of-the-art facility:
| • |
230,000 square feet of dedicated diagnostic, treatment and consultation space, housed in a five-floor facility attached to the hospital’s west side, with three stories of expansion over the existing structure |
| • |
A single, streamlined Cardiac Access Area, where patients are admitted directly without having to go through the hospital or wait for a bed |
| • |
A patient and family-focused care approach that brings services to the patient, including audiovisual equipment for patient education in each room, private consulting rooms, and patient education facilities for small group instruction and rehabilitative exercise |
| • |
148 private cardiac patient rooms with in-room overnight accommodations for family members—ten of these rooms will be for critical care patients |
| • |
In-room access to digital imaging for the care-giving team to allow medical staff to see the most recent test results and explain procedures and treatments to the patient in the privacy of his or her room |
| • |
State-of-the-art non-invasive cardiovascular imaging, including Cardiac MRI and Rapid Multislice CT, the best diagnostic tools available |
| • |
Additional cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology laboratories with space and capability for state-of-the-art technology, and flexibility for emerging innovations |
| • |
Four new cardiac surgery suites, including one equipped for robotic surgery |
| • |
A chest pain observation center adjacent to the emergency department, for immediate and specialized response to patients with heart attack symptoms |
| • |
Cardiac rehabilitation facilities and equipment moved on-site alongside our other outpatient care services, providing easier access to a key service for heart patients
